New Car on Dhanteras? Should You Get PPF Before or After Delivery?

Dhanteras falls on 6 November 2026 and Diwali on 8 November, and
plenty of Delhi NCR families will take home a new BMW, Mercedes, Audi
or Range Rover that week. If you’ve already decided to protect the
paint with paint protection film (PPF), you still have to decide when
to get it done. Should it go on before delivery, on delivery day, or a
few weeks later once the festivities are over?

This guide explains how the timing works, what to check before you
sign the delivery papers, and how to plan around festival traffic and
busy studio calendars.

STEP 1: INSPECT THE CAR PROPERLY BEFORE YOU SIGN (PDI)

PPF protects paint. It doesn’t fix it. Any defect already on the car
will end up sealed under the film, so the pre-delivery inspection
(PDI) at the dealership matters more than the PPF itself.

What to check at the dealer
– Daylight inspection. Ask to see the car outside or under bright,
even lighting. Showroom spotlights can hide fine marks.
– Swirls and haze. Look at dark paint at an angle. Fine circular
scratches usually come from a rushed wash or polish at the yard.
– Transport marks. Check the bumper corners, door edges, roof and the
lower sills for chips, scuffs or tape residue from shipping.
– Panel consistency. Compare the colour and gloss on neighbouring
panels, and check the gaps are even. A mismatch can mean a panel was
repainted.
– Glass, lights and wheels. Look for chips on the windscreen,
scratches on the headlamp lenses, and kerb marks on the alloys.
– Odometer and documents. Make sure the kilometres look right for a
new car, and that the VIN and manufacturing date match your paperwork.

If you find something, get it written down on the delivery note before
you accept the car. Minor swirls can usually be corrected by a
professional paint correction before film goes on. Chips and repaints
are a matter for the dealer.

Tip: If you’re unsure, bring a detailer with you or book a paint
inspection straight after delivery. Wheel Force Studio offers a free
paint inspection for new cars, so you know what condition you’re
starting from.

BEFORE DELIVERY, ON DELIVERY DAY, OR LATER?

Most dealers won’t let an outside studio work on a car before it’s
registered and handed over, so in practice the real choice is between
straight after delivery and waiting a few weeks.

(Please build this as a table. Columns: | Straight after delivery
(same day or next day) | Waiting a few weeks)
– Paint condition: Factory-fresh, very little prep needed | May pick
up chips, swirls from washes, or bird-dropping etching
– Prep time: Usually less correction needed | More correction may be
needed, so the job can take longer
– Delhi exposure: Film is on before the first expressway run or
society parking | Paint is exposed through Diwali traffic and smog
season
– Convenience: You plan for 2-4 days without the car during the
festive week | You get to enjoy the car first and fit the studio visit
around your schedule
– Best for: Owners who want the paint protected from day one | Owners
who can’t spare the car during the festival week

There isn’t one right answer. The earlier the film goes on, the less
paint correction you need underneath it. If you’re planning a Diwali
road trip or regular trips on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, it makes
sense to get the film on first.

WILL AN OUTSIDE STUDIO AFFECT MY DEALER WARRANTY?

This is the most common question we’re asked, so here’s an honest answer.
– Your warranty is a contract. What it covers is set out in your
manufacturer’s warranty booklet, not by a general rule. Read the
exclusions section.
– Warranties typically exclude damage caused by aftermarket work, not
the whole car. Most manufacturer warranties refuse a claim when a
non-approved accessory or modification caused the fault. Correctly
installed PPF is a film on the paint surface. It doesn’t touch the
engine, electronics or mechanicals.
– Paint warranties are the area to check. Some manufacturers’ paint or
corrosion warranties may ask whether film or aftermarket treatment
affected the finish. If that worries you, ask your dealer to confirm
their position in writing before you book.
– Choose a branded film and a certified installer. Quality film is
designed to be removed cleanly by a professional. Cheap films and poor
installation are what cause adhesive residue, edge lift or blade marks
on paint.

In short, we’re not aware of any Indian rule that voids a car’s whole
warranty just because it has PPF from an independent studio. Still,
warranty terms differ by brand, so check your own booklet and get a
written answer from your dealer if you’re unsure.

DEALER PPF VS A SPECIALIST STUDIO

Many dealers now offer PPF as an add-on at the time of sale. That can
be convenient. Before you agree, ask a few questions:
– Which brand and which product line? “PPF” covers everything from
budget TPU to top-end self-healing film. Ask for the exact product
name.
– Who installs it? Dealers often send the job out to a third-party
installer. Ask who it is and whether they’re certified for that brand.
– What does the warranty cover, and who honours it? Ask for the film
manufacturer’s warranty card in your name.
– Pre-cut or custom-wrapped edges? Wrapped edges hide the film line
better, but they need a skilled installer.

At Wheel Force Studio we’re authorised for Saint-Gobain, Llumar, STEK,
XPEL, 3M and Garware, and our applicators are certified. Our PPF comes
with up to a 12-year film warranty, plus a 2-year accidental damage
replacement guarantee. Every PPF job also gets complimentary ceramic
coating on the alloys, trims, glass and lights. If you want to compare
brands first, read our guide XPEL vs STEK vs Llumar vs Saint-Gobain vs

HOW LONG DOES PPF INSTALLATION TAKE?

It depends on the car, how much of it is being covered, and how much
paint correction is needed. As a rough guide:
– Front-end or partial kits: usually about a day.
– Full-body PPF: often 2-4 days, including wash, decontamination, any
correction, installation and a post-install check. Large SUVs and
complex bodywork can take longer.
– Curing: the film keeps settling for days afterwards. Small moisture
bubbles or a slight haze in the first days are normal and usually
clear as it cures. Film makers such as XPEL recommend waiting 48 hours
before the first wash (72 hours for colour PPF).

We explain each stage in How PPF Is Applied on a Luxury Car
(https://wheelforcestudio.com/blog/how-ppf-is-applied-on-a-luxury-car-in-2026-step-by-step-process-time-what-to-check-in-delhi-ncr/).

YOUR FIRST WEEK WITH NEW PPF
– Don’t wash the car for at least 48 hours, or longer if your
installer tells you to.
– Don’t use a pressure washer close to the film edges.
– Avoid automatic brush car washes.
– Wipe off bird droppings and festival residue, like firecracker ash,
soon, using a soft microfibre cloth.
– Don’t pick at small bubbles or lifted edges. Let your installer take
a look at them.
– Park under cover where you can for the first few days.

Many of the problems we see come from mistakes in the first week. Our
article Why PPF Fails in Delhi NCR
(https://wheelforcestudio.com/blog/why-ppf-fails-in-delhi-ncr-edge-lift-dust-cheap-film-and-the-first-week-mistakes/)
covers them in detail.

WHY DELHI NCR PAINT NEEDS EXTRA CARE AROUND DIWALI
– Smog and dust. Fine dust and pollutant fallout settle on the car
every day in winter. Wiping it dry drags the grit across the paint.
– Expressway stone chips. The Dwarka Expressway, the Delhi-Mumbai
Expressway and NH-48 throw up gravel at speed, and that chips bonnets,
bumpers and mirrors.
– Society parking. Tight basements, pillars, door dings and bird
droppings in open parking all take their toll.
– Festival traffic. Bumper-to-bumper Diwali traffic, crowded markets
and firecracker debris add plenty of risk to a new car’s first week.

PPF won’t make your car indestructible, but it takes most of this
everyday wear, so the paint underneath doesn’t.

drop, we can collect the car from your home or from the dealership
after delivery.

FAQS

1. Can I get PPF done at an outside studio without losing my warranty?
In general, yes. Correctly installed PPF doesn’t affect mechanical
components. Warranty terms vary by manufacturer, though, so check your
booklet and ask your dealer to confirm in writing.

2. Should I get PPF before or after delivery?
Straight after delivery is ideal, because the paint is new and needs
little correction. Do a careful PDI first so existing defects aren’t
sealed under the film.

3. How long will my car be at the studio?
It depends on coverage and the car. Partial kits usually take about a
day, and full-body PPF often takes 2-4 days. We’ll confirm the
timeline after we inspect the car.

4. When can I wash my car after PPF?
Film makers such as XPEL recommend waiting at least 48 hours (72 hours
for colour PPF). Use a hand wash and keep pressure washers away from
the edges.

5. Is dealer PPF the same as studio PPF?
Not always. Ask for the exact brand and product, who installs it, and
whose name is on the warranty. Then compare like for like.

6. Does PPF stop all chips and scratches?
No. It absorbs most stone chips and light scratches, and self-healing
films recover from fine marks. A hard impact can still damage the film
or the panel underneath.
